October 2013- On Wednesday, Deputies from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office visited the Lawrence County Cooperative School in Portia to begin Red Ribbon Week. Ribbons were delivered by ATOD Coordinator Debbie Burton earlier to all schools in Lawrence County to be worn in observance of Red Ribbon Week, October 23rd through October 31st.
In addition to a program on drug awareness, school officials requested a program on bullying. K9 Officer Kyle Craig spent time with the adult students explaining the dangers of both drug use and bullying. The students were very receptive and responded with lots of questions and comments.
Also while on the campus, teachers with the younger students ask Officer Craig if he’d take the time to show the children patrol cars. Officer Craig took the time to show the children a patrol car and his K9 unit, including lights and sirens.
Officers will visit all the Lawrence County schools during Red Ribbon Week. For more information on the Lawrence County ATOD visit www.lawrencecountyarkansas.com/atod-coalition-of-lawrence-county

308 lbs
Saturday April 27th- the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office and the ATOD Coalition of Lawrence County
partnered again for the 6th DEA National Rx Take Back Initiative. Take back sites where held at the
Sheriff’s Office in Walnut Ridge, the Imboden Substation and at the Strawberry Community Center.
Sheriff’s Deputies and ATOD members worked the take back sites. Even with the rainy weather each site
reported a good turnout. The Sheriff’s Office also has a permanent Rx drug drop box. Between the take
back event and the drop box 308 pounds of old medicine was collected for proper disposal with the
DEA. Not only was old Rx medicine turned in but also OTC medicines as well. I would like to thank
everyone who participated in this event. This is a record amount for the Rx take back here in Lawrence
County. Lawrence County has taken part in every take back event since it was started. Again thank you
to everyone who took time to make Lawrence County a safer place to live.
