In 2010, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office began to acquire Humvee’s from a state program called the LESO Program.
To date, the Sheriff’s Office has 4 military Humvees that are used in various operations. The sheriff’s office keeps the vehicles posted in different parts of the county in the event they are needed. The vehicles only cost the county $260.00 each to acquire.
The Humvees are used by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Dive Team as well as patrol during inclement weather. These vehicles give the officers a vehicle that can go past the limits of patrol cars.
Residents of Lawrence County have benefitted from the vehicles in floods, snow, ice and inclement weather situations. These vehicles are also used by patrol, criminal investigation officers needing to travel off road in the county.
